Life of a parent

When I start receiving requests to update our site from the Philipines, I know it’s been too long (thank you Nate and Jessica 😉 ). Our lives have been quite hectic since returning from the cruise…we’ve had soccer practice, soccer games, classes on parenting, parent teacher conferences, my sister’s baby shower in Indiana, preparation for the garage sale of all garage sales (postponed to November)…geesh! What happend to bachelorhood???

Much needed vacation

Sweet Vacation

Well, with our new carpet finally laid, it was time for a much needed vacation. Lisa, Justin and I embarked with 5 other friends on a week long vacation via cruise ship to Ensenada, Mexico last week. Midnight buffets, friends, cuban cigars, tropical fru-fru drinks, Drew dressed as a woman…it was everything we thought it could be! We departed from L.A. last Monday, hit San Diego on Tuesday, Catilina on Wednesday, Ensenada on Thursday and then it was back home. From a screw in our tire on the way out to the other car almost running out of gas on the way home, the trip had all the fun and excitement you would expect.
To read more about the trip, click “Continue reading…”. If you want to head straight for the pictures, either click on the photo album link on the right or just follow this link:

P.S. The pictures of me dressed as a woman are NOT online…I’m not THAT stupid!! 😉

“So how’s the house?”

This seems to be the question of the hour, so as we hit the 1 month mark I figured I’d drop a quick update. We have certainly been busy with 2 weddings this past month (bringing the summer total to 6), recovering from the flood, Justin starting Kindergarten, and trying to get some assemblance of “normal” in our lives…which we’re still not convinced exists.

The Great Flood

Our house under water

Lisa and I have been complaining since we bought our house that we have to pay for annual flood insurance. Our mortgage company requires it because we’re in a “flood plain”. That’s right, a flood plain. In Arizona. Where we get MAYBE a foot of rain a year. We’ve had some choice words to say about this mandate and have even contested it, especially when they made us increase it a month ago. However, this all changed this past Tuesday when our house ended up under water.

Brotherly Love

Throughout my time at Taylor it was not unusual to find a group of people sitting in the dorm lobby in spontaneous praise and worship. It was also common to find men circling around each other to pray during any variety of circumstances. The danger of seeing this so often that we soon take it for granted…until we leave Taylor. But this past weekend was a chance to re-experience all that while realizing how God designed His body of believers to love each other.
I spent this past weekend with 6 men who reminded me of those times at Taylor. We were all in Omaha, Nebraska for our good friend Nate’s wedding and, due to high ticket prices, I was a bachelor again for the weekend (though I don’t think Lisa minded finally having a weekend to herself). This included everything from worship together in the bride’s living room, ultimate frisbee, arcade racing and boxing at Dave & Busters, avoiding near arrest at a state park and a good ol’ fashioned campfire with the boys. It was a time of encouragement, prayer, and solid worship just like I remembered from Taylor. It’s amazing to be around men who have such a desire to lift each other up. How refreshing!
It reminded me of Romans 12:
“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.”
Nate, Mike, Barrett, Chris, Preston, and Kaspar, you all are truly men of God who I hold in the highest esteem. Thank you so much for this amazing weekend and this reminder of Christian brotherhood and fellowship at its finest. Looking forward to our next big bachelor par…er…time to celebrate together!

Indiana Reception a big success!

Lisa and Justin

We just completed a wonderful weekend with family, friends, food, fun, an F-117 Flyover and fabulous fireworks! Lisa, Justin, Mom Liesch, Lisa’s grandmother, and I all flew back to Indiana last Thursday night to join in our second wedding reception, this time hosted by Mom and Dad B. The reception was Saturday night and included perfect weather, a prime rib buffett, shrimp cocktail and, much to Jojo’s delight, crab legs! We got to see so many people who were unable to make it out to Arizona for the wedding, and even a few who did! Thank you so much to all of you who came to the reception to celebrate with us…it realy meant so much to us. And thank you even more to Mom B, who threw one of the greatest parties we could ever imagine! Come back soon as we’ll be putting up more pictures.

Out of Town Guest Information

We’ve updated our site to include directions for our out of town guests. Simply click HERE or follow the link on the right called “Out of Town Guests” under the Indiana Reception heading. Plus, we’ve included some interesting things to visit while you’re in town, including some of the best food in the Midwest (my FAVORITE!) and other area attractions. Hope this helps you all plan your travel a little better!
