Brotherly Love

Throughout my time at Taylor it was not unusual to find a group of people sitting in the dorm lobby in spontaneous praise and worship. It was also common to find men circling around each other to pray during any variety of circumstances. The danger of seeing this so often that we soon take it for granted…until we leave Taylor. But this past weekend was a chance to re-experience all that while realizing how God designed His body of believers to love each other.
I spent this past weekend with 6 men who reminded me of those times at Taylor. We were all in Omaha, Nebraska for our good friend Nate’s wedding and, due to high ticket prices, I was a bachelor again for the weekend (though I don’t think Lisa minded finally having a weekend to herself). This included everything from worship together in the bride’s living room, ultimate frisbee, arcade racing and boxing at Dave & Busters, avoiding near arrest at a state park and a good ol’ fashioned campfire with the boys. It was a time of encouragement, prayer, and solid worship just like I remembered from Taylor. It’s amazing to be around men who have such a desire to lift each other up. How refreshing!
It reminded me of Romans 12:
“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.”
Nate, Mike, Barrett, Chris, Preston, and Kaspar, you all are truly men of God who I hold in the highest esteem. Thank you so much for this amazing weekend and this reminder of Christian brotherhood and fellowship at its finest. Looking forward to our next big bachelor par…er…time to celebrate together!

  1. I agree with my friend Roxy whose kids also are Taylor grads. There’s something about the Taylor connection that goes to the core. When Taylor has touched you and grown you spiritually, there is nothing like it. It was especially evident at Drew’s wedding and Indiana reception. Although I have seen it in my son over the years. Drew’s Taylor friends are wonderful men and women.

  2. Drew, you are so right, i love that about our friends! i can’t wait to do it again in two weeks!
