Our Hoover Dam Trip

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Breaking the silence with a video. This is the project our family created for Justin’s school assignment. His assignment was to do a 3 minute presentation on something in Arizona. He wanted to do the Hoover Dam, so we made a weekend trip up North and this video is the result. Be kind, as all video and pictures were from our cell phones… ūüėČ

Gingerbread houses

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

Justin’s friend Sarah came over and the kids all made gingerbread houses this morning.¬† While our boys will likely have tummy aches from eating the candy, I think the end result was great…and quite tummy looking! More pictures after the break…

Justin learned to fold the flag

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

At cub scouts last week, Justin and his den (“The Freedom Fighters”) learned how to fold the American flag properly.  Here he is practicing.  Way to go Justin!

The second picture is of Justin doing science experiments at the most recent meeting with “igor” and the “mad scientist” (a.k.a. Tim and Harlem).

Drew’s New Cave:

::there is a little GEEK inside everyone of us!::

During my most recent computer build I was taking pictures of the progress as a close friend wanted to see what I was working on. ¬†During one of these photo sessions Lisa walked in, watched for a moment, and said, “You’re not going to post that on our blog, are you?”

I admit that the thought had crossed my mind…after all, blogs provide a fantastic way of organizing thoughts and pictures. ¬†However, I also had to admit she was right…98% of you really couldn’t care less about the computer I just built, no matter how proud I really was. ¬†There had to be a compromise.

I’ve been thinking about this “sub-blog” for several weeks now, but an email from my wife’s uncle John pushed me over the edge, resulting in what you’re reading now. ¬†So, if you’re interested, head over to to check it out. ¬†If not? ¬†Well, there’s always the family blog right here!

Lisa’s project today

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Lisa has been very busy this afternoon sewing the boys some new pajamas pants. Not only am I shocked at how fast she made them, I can’t help but find the boys TOTALLY ADORABLE in them. Way to go Lisa!

Why do bad things have to happen in threes?

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

So you know how bad things tend to happen in threes? Earlier this week our garage door spring snapped and we had to have that fixed. Then the A/C issue, and as our handyman was leaving for the day a few minutes ago he saw what is pictured here: our water heater appears to have given up the ghost. Awesome.

More work on the house

Oh, the joys of homeownership. Our latest project involves redoing a big chunk of our A/C system in attempt to keep our living room cool. Our handyman says hello.

Extreme Deck Building – Part 9…the final story!

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The deck……it is finally completed and it didn’t take us a year! The deck was mostly completed in time for the wedding, with only the top slats missing (the “shade” part of the “shaded” deck). So, in order for us to completely finish the deck, we decided to order the remaining lumber to complete the deck the beginning of August.

Extreme Deck Building – Part 8

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

The deck is primed and ready for paint! We started last night by putting the rest of the hurricane straps up on the rafters and then quickly got to work getting the paint sprayer working. We finally finished spraying the primer on the deck around 8:30…at which point we also realized we were both covered in white paint. It was in our hair, on our clothes and on every inch of exposed skin. Plus, it then took another hour just to clean the sprayer and get it ready for the actual paint tonight.

Extreme Deck Building – Part 7

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Sorry, was too tired to download pictures last night but we’ll get some up tonight. However, Jeremy and I were able to get all of the rafters up top and secured and have most of the hurricane straps attached. We also rented a floor sander and sanded the entire deck and step under the glow of our new portable work lights, then used my small orbital sander to get the small spots. Have a little more touch up sanding to do, a few more hurricane straps to secure, and then we’re priming the entire deck tonight and painting it tomorrow, just in time for the rehearsal dinner on Friday. *WHEW*
As a side note, I got no sleep Sunday night as I was thinking about this deck and all that was left to do in the final week. I’m so ready to be done with this and actually spend time with my family again…
