Indiana Vacation – May 2006

The Family

Just as the temperatures were breaking 100 degrees in Phoenix we packed our suitcases and headed to Indiana. Not only was this the longest I’ve been home since college, but it was the longest trip Lisa, Justin and I had ever taken together! And the week certainly had some exciting moments…including a new family member!

Perhaps one of the most “life-changing” event was the purchase of our new puppy, Indy:

Indy is an AKC registered yellow lab who stole our hearts the moment we saw him! No, we had not been planning on getting a puppy during our trip to Indiana. However, Lisa and I had been to the Humane Society already looking at dogs and were planning on taking Justin to look for a dog when we got back. That is, until we saw the sign for lab puppies while vacationing in Indiana. We decided to take a look and Indy stole our hearts with his mellow personality and huge paws.
Once we’d decided on him, there was so much to do! We had to get a kennel for him, alert the airline that he’d be coming with us, pay the fee to bring him with, purchase necessities like a leash and collar, take him to the vet for a “good health” certificate for the airline…all in a few days time! However, he did very well camped out under the seat in front of us in his kennel and our flight home was thankfully uneventful, except for a couple cries when we were taking off from Chicago. But we arrived in Phoenix and he has been adjusting quite well to our big yard, though taking him out every 3 hours at night is getting a little old…the joys of owning a puppy.
We also had the opportunity to throw mom and dad a surprise 30th anniversary party! Lisa, Em, and I had spent the last few months planning the party, making reservations, making invitations, and letting everyone know about it. We booked the private room at the Lasalle Grill, their favorite restaurant in South Bend (the waiting staff knows their names AND their favorite drinks). We had about 35 of their closest friends attend and truly surprised them. It was a smashing success and very fun to see everyone.

All in all, it was a wonderful time with family and friends and a chance for some much needed relaxation. Mom and dad: tag, you’re it! See you in July! 😉
